Bloomingdale Civic Association meeting

About 25 people attended.

Kelly Cislo of Ward 5 CM McDuffie’s office spoke about the recent DC Water boil advisory. 

Initiative 77 (tipped wages)

Ms. Quinn asked Ms. Cislo about the status of the recently passed Initiative 77.  Ms. Cislo read CM McDuffie’s official statement why he opposes the initiative and supports the Tipps Workers Fairness Amendment Act – the repeal of Initiative 77.

DDOT traffic calming

Ms. Quinn said that he hopes that DDOT will return at the September BCA meeting to provide an update on 1st Street NW traffic calming discussion.

Park at LeDroit renovations

Autumn Saxton-Ross advised that the Park at LeDroit received nearly $90,000 to renovate and improve the park.  She would like DC Department of Parks and Recreation to present its plans at the September 2018 BCA meeting.  She reported that the mural at the Park at LeDroit is now being restored.  

ANC5E commissioner petitions

Ms. Quinn advised that candidates for the Bloomingdale-area ANC5E commissioners are now out gathering signatures to get their names on the November 2018 general election ballot.  The four single member districts (SMDs) that cover Bloomingdale are ANC5E06, ANC5E07, ANC5E08 and ANC5E09.  She encouraged residents to consider running.  Only 25 signatures are needed to get one’s name on the ballot.

DCity Smokehouse Block Party on Saturday, 07/28/2018

DCity Smokehouse’s block party will held on Saturday, 07/28/2018, from 11 am to 6 pm.  There will be a band performing. The event will be on 2nd Street NW from Florida Avenue NW up to S Street NW. An event flier is forthcoming.

Temporarily redirecting Florida and Rhode Island Avenue NW traffic along 2nd St NW

Ms. Cislo advised that the CM’s office would be meeting regarding the planned traffic redirection along 2nd Street NW for DC Water work.  Stay tuned.

BCA Nominations Committee

Ms. Quinn solicited volunteers to participate in the BCA Nominations Committee for the October 2018 BCA elections.  She said that the BCA needs new blood and new energy.

BCA Fun and Fit Committee

Ms. Quinn solicited volunteers to participate in the BCA Fun and Fit Committee.  The current committee co-chairs have moved out of the area, unfortunately.

Public safety

Officer Rathlev and Officer Heinz introduced themselves.  They advised that they were sent on behalf of Lieutenant Frenzel and Sergeant Brown.   

Bloomingdale Historic Preservation Review Board (HPRB) hearing

Ms. Quinn advised that the Bloomingdale Historic District Historic Preservation Review Board (HPRB) hearing will be held on Thursday, 07/26/2018.  Ms. Barnes said that testimony and comments can be submitted via Email ahead of the HPRB hearing.  Mr. Brannum said that people can testify in person at the hearing.

Government representatives

ANC5E06 Commissioner Katherine McClelland announced that she would not be running for her position in the November 2018 general election.
